Monitor actual web page delivery, see where your
visitors are located |
Remote customer connectivity and performance problems are time consuming and costly to resolve because the collection and instrumentation from the customer location is prohibitive...until now.
DesktopProfile, a highly scalable upgrade to our popular VisualPulse line of network monitoring solutions, provides a sophisticated server engine that is able to synthetically test and measure the major Internet application services from the vantage point that makes sense. Now, your support organization can quickly and easily build a clear picture of the service levels delivered to customers over time anywhere in the world.

DesktopProfile Support Edition
Provide Support technicians with access to major Internet application protocol measurements from the desktop or other key points within your network. Internet application measurement - synthetic measurement of all major Internet application protocals from the desktop including HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, POP3, Ping, FTP, NNTP, DNS, and Port.
Network IP device latency and packet loss - continuous ping response and error reporting provides essential performance measures of network latency and degradation. |
DesktopProfile Web Edition
Provide Support technicians with access to the right data and analysis tools for monitoring critical network devices, web pages and application ports. Web page response time - HTTP measures provide latency and error percent information for text download of web pages.
Application ports - TCP port monitoring reports the availability of critical TCP/IP services such as SNMP, FTP, POP3 and DNS.
Network IP device latency and packet loss - continuous ping response and error reporting provides essential performance measures of network latency and degradation.

FEATURES:
- Enterprise scalability
DesktopProfile's unique architecture utilizes HTTP as the communications gateway, which provides many benefits, including the ability to operate any number of server engines throughout the enterprise, very low network overhead and resource consumption, and universal compatibility through a Web browser. Automated data consolidation allows data from one or more DesktopProfile engines to be consolidated on a single or multiple servers, enabling enterprise-wide performance reporting with a standard interface, and resulting in reduced administrative and training overhead.
- Run everywhere, access anywhere
DesktopProfile uses java technology to deliver the integrated
analysis toolkit "anywhere" via the standard browser. The DesktopProfile
java based server component supports a run "everywhere" multi-platform architecture namely Solaris, Linux and Windows.
- Powerful analysis
DesktopProfile server includes a powerful analysis toolkit that is delivered via the standard browser
as a full windows GUI application. The toolkit provides correlation and investigation tools to provide
root cause analysis as well as a wide range of graphical reporting and web publishing tools.
- Internet application measurement from the desktop
DesktopProfile is able to synthetically measure the major Internet
application protocols from the desktop including HTTP and HTTPs to measure web pages
and web transactions, SMTP and POP3 to measure mail services both sending and
receiving, Ping to measure network latency and packet loss, Ftp to measure
data transfer throughput, NNTP to measure news services, DNS to measure DNS
services, and Port to measure all other application ports. (learn more)
- Enterprise-class device, web page and application port monitoring

- Data export
DesktopProfile data export feature also supports XML, CSV and Text formats
to support a wide range of external applications. DesktopProfile also provides
an additional scheduling engine to allow data exports to be automated based on
time.
- Secure digital signing
DesktopProfile supports the same secure digital signing technology as seen in the other Internet Performance Suite products. This digital signing technology allows the small desktop agents to be automatically pre configured before deployment, eliminating the need for any installation or configuration at the remote customer location. This approach makes the deployment of DesktopProfile agents seamless and very fast. Desktop agents can be signed to communicate with one or more server engines independently.
- Problem alerting
DesktopProfile provides a threshold management subsystems as well as an
alert management subsystem. The threshold management system primarily drives
the reporting subsystem by enabling report color coding for critical and
warning thresholds. The alert management system extends the threshold
management system to allow multiple alerts to be set against a single
resource. This approach provides the means to implement alert escalation where
different support groups are alerted depending on the value of the alarm
condition. Both the threshold management system and the alert management
system support email and SNMP trap methods for implementation.
- Sophisticated reporting
DesktopProfile provides a sophisticated suite of reporting technologies to
provide the user with a wide range of reporting methods. These reporting
methods encompass a full web publishing system for internal and external
reporting as well as graphical reporting tools to provide reporting by
application or business themes. All graphical reporting methods integrate
directly to the analysis toolkit for quick root cause analysis.
Pre-defined System Reports automatically report critical availability information
without any configuration or setup. Performance data is aggregated into daily, hourly and
monthly reports for easy trending analysis.
DesktopProfile's flexible HTML and Custom Web Reports provide visibility to individualized
performance data via a browser from anywhere on the Web. Custom Web Reports can be scheduled
to run at regular intervals and automatically published to a remote Web server. Users may
be sent automated notifications via email when a new report has been published. Access to the
Web-based reports is fully password protected, and individual reports can be easily defined so
that a user only sees the service level information pertinent to their needs. In addition, the
HTML reports may be easily customized to incorporate your own corporate graphics and messaging.
These capabilities are of particular benefit to hosting providers, as they provide individualized
service level reporting for each customer.
- Central configuration
DesktopProfile agents are completely stateless, which means that the service
measurements that a desktop agent collects are instructed directly from the
DesktopProfile server engine. No data is maintained or stored on the desktop
and the agent is free to come and go as it pleases. This allows support to
collect a small data sample or a large data sample depending on the problem
being investigated. This approach means that any changes to the central server
will automatically affect any or all desktop agents registered with the
server. Desktop agents can also be digitally signed to communicate with more
than one DesktopProfile server. In this configuration mode the different
servers are independently configured to conduct the measures and the desktop
agent ensures that the data is returned and stored only at the originating
server.
- ROI Protection
DesktopProfile introduces a flexible licensing model that greatly
simplifies licensing while adding complete flexibility to utilize all
available data collection modules. Licensing is a simple matter of deciding
how many concurrent collections are needed, not how many desktop agents are
deployed. This approach sets a high water mark and the user is free to run as
many collections as desired so long as the high water mark is not breached.
This allows desktop agents to come and go if a dynamic way as is
typical in a support environment. Should the high water mark be reached the
user can easily increase the threshold by ordering a new license key, further
software installation is not required.
